Claudia Losi's 45 Stone Sculptures Dot Trail Between Bergamo and Brescia

Claudia Losi has created 'Al tuo passo', an installation of 45 small stone sculptures placed along the first three kilometers of the Cammino delle Sorelle, a 130-kilometer naturalistic trail connecting Bergamo and Brescia. The work was commissioned for the year both cities serve as Italian Capital of Culture, curated by Alessandra Pioselli and Ilaria Bignotti. Each sculpture is made from local coti stone, carved by local stonemasons into ogival shapes resembling ancient agricultural tools used to sharpen scythe blades. The stones, about 30 centimeters long, bear incised drawings and phrases gathered through community meetings in Nembro, the starting point in the Val Seriana. The trail passes through the Marcantonio path, woods, foothill landscapes, and protected parks like Parco dei Colli and Parco delle Colline. The entire Cammino delle Sorelle takes 5-6 days on foot, promoted by Slowride for sustainable tourism. Losi describes the sculptures as 'emotional punctuation' and 'forest fairies' that are discreet and mimetic, placed along a route that partly follows a Via Crucis with frescoed shrines. The project, rooted in the concept of 'culture as care' post-pandemic, involved public dialogues with the Nembro community. It includes a map drawn by Losi featuring imaginary human-animal hybrids and sayings from local elders.
