Claudia Losi on Ceramics, Collaboration, and the Unexpected
Claudia Losi (born 1971, Piacenza) has long integrated diverse artisanal skills into her work, most notably in the multi-year Balena Project. Recently, she engaged with ceramics in Montelupo, producing powerful new sculptures. In an interview with Irene Biolchini, Losi discusses her collaboration with local artisans, describing it as an improvisation on known standards. Her ceramic works include large animal ribs and jaws, inspired by fossil bones on buildings near Montelupo and by centuries-old construction practices in the far north. Losi emphasizes the long, unpredictable timing of ceramics, which taught her a new form of waiting. She was surprised by the pinkish hue of the fired ribs, a result of adding lead and copper, which she chose to keep. Looking ahead, she wants to explore glazes further. The interview is part of Artribune's series 'Gli artisti e la ceramica' (Artists and Ceramics).
