Claudia Andujar's Yanomami Photography Exhibition at Barbican Documents Indigenous Rights Struggle
The Barbican in London is currently hosting Claudia Andujar's exhibition, 'The Yanomami Struggle,' which runs until 29 August 2021. The Swiss-born Brazilian photographer has spent nearly 70 years documenting the Yanomami people, presenting over 300 photographs, an audiovisual piece from 1989, and collaborative drawings created between 1971 and 1989. Andujar began her photographic journey with the Yanomami in 1971 for a project featured in Realidade. In 1978, she partnered with Carlo Zacquini and Bruce Albert to establish the NGO Comissão Pró-Yanomami (CCPY), advocating for land protection, which the government acknowledged in 1992. The exhibition also addresses the effects of mining and diseases, including COVID-19. Since 1960, Andujar's work has appeared in Life and has been showcased globally.
