Claudia Andujar's Yanomami Advocacy Showcased in São Paulo Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-23

The exhibition 'A luta Yanomami' by Claudia Andujar is currently on display at the Instituto Moreira Salles in São Paulo, showcasing approximately 300 photographs from her nearly 50-year dedication to Indigenous communities. Curated by Thyago Nogueira, the exhibition features archival items such as notes and diaries that illustrate her relationship with the Yanomami. This marks Andujar's second showcase at IMS, following her 2015 exhibition titled 'No lugar do outro.' Having first encountered the Yanomami in 1971, she spent more than four decades living among them. The exhibition is split into two sections: one focused on Yanomami culture and the other on her activism, including the notable 1983 series 'Marcados.' A significant installation, 'Genocídio do Yanomami: Morte do Brasil,' addresses the dangers facing Indigenous lands. The Yanomami territory was officially designated in 1992 during President Collor's administration.
