Classical Sculpture Collection Returns to Palazzo Grimani After Four Centuries
After over 400 years, the classical sculpture collection of Patriarch Giovanni Grimani returns to Palazzo Grimani in Venice. The exhibition 'Domus Grimani 1594 – 2019', curated by Daniele Ferrara and Toto Bergamo Rossi, opened in May 2019 alongside the Venice Biennale and runs until May 2021. The centerpiece is the reconstruction of the Tribune, a key moment in European museology, preserved in its architectural structure. The display includes furnishings and artworks in preceding rooms to recreate a 16th-century aristocratic residence. The route leads to the antiquities chamber, accessible only through its original entrance. The Tribune underwent modifications over centuries, including a large window and a second door to the Neoclassical room. Temporary architectural niches recreate the original space.
