Clark Art Institute Unveils Aso O. Tavitian Collection with 150 Masterworks
In Williamstown, Massachusetts, the Clark Art Institute has launched 'An Exquisite Eye: Introducing the Aso O. Tavitian Collection,' a significant exhibition featuring around 150 masterpieces from a larger donation of 331 artworks—paintings, sculptures, drawings, and decorative arts—curated by the late Aso O. Tavitian, a renowned collector and philanthropist. This exhibition covers four centuries of European art, from 1450 to 1850, showcasing pieces by notable artists such as Jan van Eyck, Ambrosius Bosschaert the Elder, and Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Key highlights include van Eyck's 'Madonna at the Fountain' and Vigée Le Brun's 'Self Portrait in Studio Costume.' The Tavitian gift enhances the Clark's early modern European art collection and includes over $45 million for conservation and research. A new wing is set to open in 2028. The exhibition will be on view until February 21, 2027.
