Clarisse Doussot's Photographic Exploration of Packaging at Decimus Magnus Art

exhibition · 2026-04-23

Clarisse Doussot presents two series at Decimus Magnus Art in Bordeaux from January 2 to March 2, 2002. One series uses color and metaphor to photograph food packaging (beef ribs, apples, goat cheese, mushrooms, ice cream), while the other uses black-and-white to depict computer equipment cases. Both series aim to elucidate reality without negating the opposition between transparency and screen, using humble materials like plastic and polystyrene. Doussot subjects ordinary elements to a fictional imperative, creating compositions where opposites complement each other. Her work detaches the image from its referent through particular lighting, stripping away familiarity to reveal an open, seductive quality. The exhibition was reviewed by Didier Arnaudet.
