Clara Fortis: When Listening Becomes Form

artist · 2026-05-07

Clara Fortis, an artist from Austria, divides her time between Zürich and Paris. Her work explores themes of belonging and communication using different forms like installation, sculpture, and painting. Clara’s artistic journey has been shaped by her experiences in countries like Switzerland, Russia, France, and the U.S. She graduated with honors in Art, Media, and Technology from Parsons Paris, after spending a crucial year at Parsons School of Design in NYC focused on sculpture. A residency at Ateliers Sculpture Paris–Montreuil further fueled her passion for this art form. She also conducts weekly art therapy sessions and co-founded Brief Shalimar, a support initiative for artists with disabilities. Influenced by her own hearing loss, her notable works include 'The Posture of Hearing' and 'The Anatomy of Screaming,' and she’s currently creating a series called 'Nietzsche’s Dog,' which visualizes the experience of chronic pain.
