CIVICITY Project Reimagines Milan Design Week Through Neighborhood Co-Design Residencies

CIVICITY is set to make its return during Milan Design Week 2026, with the goal of evolving design weeks into sustainable community initiatives. This project, created by Rotterdam's Nieuwe Instituut alongside Milan's cheFare and the Dutch Embassy in Italy, will host two Dutch design studios for residencies in various neighborhoods in Milan. The previous year's event showcased Pete Fung's Pizzeria of Promises and Studio Method's Arrotino del Design, with their work displayed at Villa Mirabello from April 21-23, 2026, and at BASE on April 24. The 2026 residency will feature Demo-practice and Ned Kaar, addressing themes of gentrification and community dynamics. A public discussion led by Angela Rui is scheduled for April 22, with journalist Hani Salih covering the event.
