Civica Pinacoteca di Cento Reopens 11 Years After Earthquake
After eleven years since the 2012 Emilia earthquake, which had a magnitude of 5.9, the Civica Pinacoteca 'Il Guercino' in Cento, near Ferrara, has reopened its doors. This museum is home to the largest collection worldwide of works by Baroque artist Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, or Guercino, who lived from 1591 to 1666. It features 16 altarpieces, 20 detached frescoes, and 11 drawings, along with works by Scarsellino, Guido Reni, Ludovico Carracci, and Matteo Loves. The renovation, costing €4 million, was funded by the Commissario Delegato and the Fondo Cultura 2021. Mayor Edoardo Accorsi announced free admission until January 7, with festivities planned from November 24-26, including a documentary, concerts, and a historical reenactment.
