Citlali Fabián Wins Photographer of the Year at 2026 Sony World Photography Awards

At the Sony World Photography Awards, Mexican photographer Citlali Fabián was honored with the title of Photographer of the Year 2026 for her series 'Bilha, Stories of my Sisters,' which also claimed first in the Creative category. Fabián, a visual artist from the Yalalteca Indigenous community now residing in London, delves into themes of identity, migration, and community through collaborative portraits of women. Her accolades include a $25,000 cash prize, Sony gear, and a solo exhibition at the 2027 awards event. In the Professional competition, 10 category winners were recognized, excluding the Creative category. Elle Leontiev from Australia was awarded Open Photographer of the Year for 'The Barefoot Volcanologist,' while Jubair Ahmed Arnob from Bangladesh was named Student Photographer of the Year for 'The Place Where I Used to Play.' Sixteen-year-old Philip Kangas from Sweden took home the Youth Photographer of the Year title with 'Saving History From the Flames.' Joel Meyerowitz received the Outstanding Contribution to Photography Award, with his work showcased at Somerset House in London from April 17 to May 4, 2026. The gala celebrated winners across various competitions, with all finalists' works displayed both at Somerset House and online.
