CirculArt Economy Artist Banknote Collection Launches in the Metaverse

Edoardo Marcenaro's CirculArt Economy, a collection of artist-signed banknotes featuring works by Salvador Dalí, Keith Haring, and Andy Warhol, is now partially accessible in the metaverse via the MetaMuseo project. Developed in collaboration with art consultant Francesco Cascino and legal strategist Gianvirgilio Cugini, MetaMuseo aims to provide immersive educational context rather than replace real-world experience. Marcenaro conceived the collection after acquiring a dollar bill signed by Warhol at a Factory party, which sparked his interest in artists who transform currency. He distributed dollar bills to artist friends, who created original works on them. The collection explores the détournement of money's conventional value into artistic value, echoing Marcel Duchamp's readymades. Cascino emphasizes that the metaverse serves as immersive information, not a substitute for live encounters, and that the virtual museum mirrors the nature of money as a representation of value. Cugini invokes Adriano Olivetti's Art Thinking approach, arguing that the metaverse can democratize access to cultural projects and education. The MetaMuseo allows global visitors to view the collection via a simple link, with plans to further circulate Non-Fungible Dollars as NFTs.
