Cinzia Ruggeri retrospective 'Cinzia says…' opens at MACRO Rome
The MACRO museum in Rome presents 'Cinzia says…', the first retrospective dedicated to Cinzia Ruggeri (Milan, 1942-2019), an Italian artist and fashion designer known for her multidisciplinary practice spanning clothing, accessories, furniture, lighting, and environmental installations. The exhibition, conceived as an immersive installation, reorganizes her production from the 1970s to 2019 through thematic insulae, highlighting collaborations with Studio Alchimia, Occhiomagico, choreographer Valeria Magli, and the band Matia Bazar (whose song 'Elettrochoc' inspired the show's title). Key reconstructions include 'La règle du jeu?' (2019) and 'La leggerezza del peso' (1989, from Abitare il Tempo curated by Ugo La Pietra). Over 150 accessories and garments from her Bloom, Cinzia Ruggeri, and Cinzio Ruggeri collections are displayed, restored and shown for the first time since their Milan fashion week shows. The exhibition also features pieces from her collaboration with Domus (directed by Mendini) and editorial work for Vogue Italia. After retiring from fashion in the late 1980s, Ruggeri focused on design and art, creating sensory environments and exhibiting internationally. The show is curated by the museum in collaboration with Elena Fava (IUAV Venice) and Laura Salvo (Federico Vavassori gallery, Milan).
