Cinema Fulgor Opens as Third Hub of Fellini Museum in Rimini

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

The Cinema Fulgor, the historic theater where Federico Fellini first discovered cinema, has opened to the public as the third site of the Fellini Museum in Rimini. Restored with sets by Dante Ferretti, the Fulgor is housed in the 18th-century Palazzo Valloni and became accessible on December 12. It completes the museum network dedicated to the Rimini-born director (1920–1993), alongside Castel Sismondo and Piazza Malatesta, which were inaugurated on August 19. Palazzo Valloni now serves as a study and research center: on the first floor, visitors can consult letters, drawings, and testimonies from the Federico Fellini Fund of the Municipality of Rimini; on the second floor, they can listen to the director's voice in the Stanza delle parole or view his entire oeuvre in the Cinemino. The new museum space, designated by the Ministry of Culture as a major national cultural heritage project, celebrates Fellini's visionary legacy in the heart of his hometown. The Fulgor is where Fellini watched his first film, Maciste all'inferno by Guido Brignone, on his father's lap, and later frequented it, entering free in exchange for portraits of American stars. On January 20, 2018, Fellini's birthday, the Casa del Cinema was inaugurated here with state funding, resuming its activity as a cinema.
