Cine-Stabilimento Ostiense: Video Art Projected on Roman Apartment Buildings

During Italy's coronavirus lockdown, artists Zaelia Bishop and Emanuele Napolitano launched Cine-Stabilimento Ostiense, a video art series projected onto apartment buildings in Rome's Ostiense district. The screenings, lasting 20–35 minutes every 2–3 days, will continue at least until the quarantine ends. Works by Roxy in the Box, Iginio De Luca, Peter Campus, Norman McLaren, Meital Katz Minerbo, Maya Attoun, Ghislaine Gohard, Ed Emshwiller, Stan Brakhage, Maya Deren, Genesis P-Orridge, and others are featured. The project is also live-streamed on Facebook and Instagram. The founders describe it as a form of sentimental and emotional resistance, drawing from the 1980s no-wave and punk scenes, and publications like Frigidaire and Ranxerox. They aim to reach a mobile, undefined community rather than a traditional cineforum.
