Cigarettes return as fashion accessory among celebrities

other · 2026-07-29

Cigarettes have made a comeback as a trendy accessory, favored by stars such as Dua Lipa, Charli XCX, Megan Stalter, Kylie Jenner, Hailey Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter, and Connor Storrie. Charli XCX's album Brat, set for release in 2024, has popularized a rebellious aesthetic; she was seen smoking after her wedding in July 2025 and offered cigarettes at her reception in Sicily. Luxury labels Khaite and Dôen provided custom cigarette packs at various events. The portrayal of tobacco in popular streaming shows for the 15-24 age group more than doubled from 2021 to 2022, including in The Simpsons. While nearly 13% of Billboard's top music videos featured smoking in 2021, this figure more than doubled by 2022. Despite this resurgence, global cigarette consumption is on the decline, although it has increased in Italy since the pandemic.
