CIFO Announces 2017 Grants and Commissions for Nine Latin American Artists

The Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO) has revealed the nine artists selected for its 2017 Grants & Commissions Program Award. Daniel Joseph Martinez, a Mexican-American post-conceptual artist with a 25-year multimedia practice spanning sculpture, video, text, and street performance, receives the Achievement Award. Emerging Artists category recipients include Ilich Castillo from Ecuador, Alana Iturralde and Ulrik López from Puerto Rico, Juan Carlos Osorno from Colombia, the Cuban duo Celia y Yunior, Katherinne Fiedler from Peru, and Ulrik López from Puerto Rico. Mid-Career Artists grants go to Richard Garet from Uruguay and Fredy Alzate from Colombia. These artists represent six countries across Latin America. An annual exhibition featuring their new work will open on September 7, 2017, in Miami. Established in 2002 by collector Ella Fontanals-Cisneros, CIFO's program supports contemporary Latin American artists at various career stages, providing opportunities to develop and present work to both local and international audiences in Miami.
