Cicero: Lucia Biancalana's Illustrated Guide to Rhetorical Figures

Lucia Biancalana, an illustrator from Perugia, has published her first book, 'Cicero. Guida illustrata alle figure retoriche', on September 30, 2019, with pièdimosca edizioni. The book is an illustrated abecedary of rhetorical figures, combining definitions, models, and images to explore language and thought. Biancalana holds a degree in industrial design from Rome and a diploma in illustration from ISIA Urbino, where the book originated as her thesis project. The volume is also the first self-contained publication of pièdimosca edizioni, a young publishing house founded by Elena Zuccaccia and Costanza Lindi, stemming from their studio Settepiani (active since 2017). The house also released 'Quaranta cose (in)esistenti', an illustrated story collection by Carlo Sperduti and Camilla Zaza, on the same day. pièdimosca edizioni focuses on non-genre fiction, illustrated books with a preference for new Arab cartoonists, poetry, and rediscovering authors. The book is designed as a pocket-sized A6 format, with illustrations and examples making it accessible yet rigorous. The publisher uses direct distribution through independent bookstores in Italy, handled by Andrea Russo. The interview with Zuccaccia reveals the editorial line and the origins of the project.
