Chrysanthos Christodoulou: From Illustration to Abstraction
Greek-born painter Chrysanthos Christodoulou, based in Milan, discusses his artistic evolution from figurative illustration to abstraction. Trained in painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Lecce and illustration at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna, he now creates abstract works with biomorphic and anthropomorphic elements. Christodoulou prefers small formats and often leaves works untitled to avoid directing viewers. He has recently expanded into three-dimensional installations, exploring themes of masculinity and solitude. His influences include David Hockney, Jannis Kounellis, and Louise Bourgeois. He is a founding member of the art magazine Stain.
