Chronos: 46 Artists Explore Time Across Six Bergamo Towns

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The exhibition Chronos, curated by Angela Madesani, brings together works by 46 artists across six municipalities in the province of Bergamo: Torre Pallavicina, Cortenuova, Calcio, Morengo, Romano di Lombardia, and Cologno al Serio. It is the first show of a year-long program called Le Stanze del Contemporaneo. The venues include historic palaces, towers, and municipal buildings, such as Palazzo Barbò (where Ermanno Olmi filmed Il mestiere delle armi), the Torre di Tristano, Palazzo Botti, Palazzo Colleoni, Palazzo Vezzoli, the Palazzo Comunale in Morengo, and Palazzo della Ragione in Romano di Lombardia. The exhibition runs for only four weeks. Madesani stated that while the spaces are strongly characterized, she did not commission site-specific works but instead selected existing pieces on the theme of time/chronos. Notable works include Filippo Armellin's L'Origine dell'Anima (2016), Daniele D'Acquisto's stratigraphies, Maurizio Donzelli's prismatic lens pieces (Mirror, 2017), Sheila Hicks' wool works, Vittorio Messina's lead pieces, Ariel Schlesinger's rusted screws, and Gianni Pettena's About non conscious architecture (1972). The Rocca in Romano di Lombardia, specifically the Sala del Cavallo, focuses on photographic and video works by Silvia Gazzola, Alberto Messina, Paolo Parma, and Hiroyuki Masuyama, whose video depicts seasonal landscape changes.
