Chroma explores color's perceptual power at Espace de l'art concret

The exhibition 'Chroma' at Espace de l'art concret in Mouans-Sartoux, France, from July 8 to October 11, 2002, was the inaugural show curated by new director Dominique Boudou. It honored the institution's twelve-year legacy under founder Gottfried Honegger while signaling a new direction. The show argued that color eludes definition and allows viewers to reinvent artworks through personal experience. Works included Cédric Teisseire's aleatory paint drippings on walls, Jean-Pierre Bertrand's video 'Passing Through'—a taxi ride metaphor interrupted every 7 minutes 40 seconds by 7 seconds of gray wall—Laurent Saksik's colored air cube responding to natural light, and Claudio Parmiggiani's 1968 piece 'Luce, luce, luce' remade for the rotunda with pure cadmium yellow pigment. Other artists featured were Nikolaus Koliusis (blue film in stairwell), Hartung, Schiess, Richter, Rutault, Badur, and Frize. The exhibition emphasized subjective perception and dynamic energy, marking a new era for the space.
