Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' Trailer Available in Six Different Formats

The official website for Christopher Nolan's upcoming film 'The Odyssey' allows viewers to watch the trailer in all six different formats in which the movie will be released. The adaptation of Homer's epic is the first major Hollywood feature shot entirely using IMAX film cameras. Formats include IMAX 70mm, IMAX with Laser, 70mm, 35mm, Dolby Vision, and Premium Large Format (PLF). Each format section on the website features a YouTube video with cast members explaining the presentation style, and the trailer is shown in the corresponding format to demonstrate differences in framing and composition. IMAX 70mm, Nolan's preferred format, uses a 1.43:1 Expanded Aspect Ratio with 15-perforation film running horizontally, offering the largest and highest-resolution image. Demand for IMAX 70mm screenings has been high, with reports of hour-long waits online. 70mm film, shown at a 2.20:1 aspect ratio, is extremely rare, with fewer than 25 cinemas worldwide equipped for it. 35mm is described as the classic film format at a 2.39:1 aspect ratio. Dolby Vision offers a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and is available on about 200 screens in the U.S. PLF theaters feature wall-to-wall screens and superior projection technology. The film is set for release on July 17.
