institutional · 2026-04-24

Christophe Cherix, MoMA's chief curator of drawings and prints, has been appointed the museum's next director, succeeding Glenn Lowry who stepped down in September after a 30-year tenure. The board of trustees voted unanimously for Cherix, citing his curatorial leadership, artist relationships, and scholarship. Cherix, a Swiss native with a degree from the University of Geneva, joined MoMA in 2007 and became chief curator in 2013. He has curated major shows including Yoko Ono: One Woman Show (2015), Adrian Piper: A Synthesis of Institutions (2018), and Betye Saar: Legends of Black Girl's Window (2019).
