Christoph Schlingensief's Animatograph Installation Debuts in Scandinavia at Malmö Konsthall
Malmö Konsthall is showcasing the inaugural Scandinavian exhibition of Christoph Schlingensief's art, titled 'The Alien Within – A Living Laboratory of Western Society'. At its heart lies the Animatograph – Icelandic Edition installation. The sole remaining intact piece from his body of work, Destroy Thingvellir (2005), was commissioned for the Reykjavík Arts Festival 2005 and features a complex design with projections and a rotating stage for audience interaction. The exhibition, curated by Diana Baldon, also includes archival documentation of Schlingensief's provocative actions, such as the 2000 Ausländer raus – Bitte liebt Österreich. Lectures and performances addressing themes of xenophobia and social injustice, with references to figures like Joseph Beuys, are part of the event, contrasting sharply with the 1970s architecture of Malmö Konsthall.
