Christoph Faulhaber's 'Revolution & Architecture' at Kunsthalle Osnabrück

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Christoph Faulhaber's solo exhibition 'Revolution & Architecture' at Kunsthalle Osnabrück, directed by Julia Draganovic, transforms the museum into a critical playground. The show opens with 'Curia,' a garden of plants borrowed from local residents, creating an 'identity garden' that the city and museum must preserve. In the former convent's church, eighty large inflatables from China fill the nave, forcing visitors to push through them. The cloister walls are covered with a collage of newspapers from around the world, critiquing mass media and the use of images. A reconstruction of the Amber Room, originally built in Prussia, given to Russia, dismantled during WWII, and rebuilt in 2003 near St. Petersburg, is parodied using enlarged prints of nasal secretions. The centerpiece is 'Every Picture is an Empty Picture' (2014), a multi-channel installation of fifteen films documenting public actions that expose power structures. One project, where Faulhaber prevented photography at a US embassy after being banned, led to terrorism suspicions and repression; it was shown at documenta 12. The exhibition runs until October 21, 2018.
