Christo's Three Store Fronts at Brafa 2018

festival-fair · 2026-05-05

Brafa, the long-running Brussels art fair, returns to Tour&Taxis for its 63rd edition, running until February 4, 2018. The fair spans from antiquity to contemporary art. Christo (born 1935 in Gabrovo) is the guest of honor, showcasing his 1965 work Three Store Fronts, a 14-meter-high installation evolving from his Show Cases series (1963-68). These earlier works were small glass vitrines covered with fabric or paper. Three Store Fronts, previously exhibited in 2001 at Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Early Works in Berlin, presents these vitrines on a monumental scale, evoking the melancholy and coldness of colossal urban architecture. Christo is renowned for wrapping monuments with Jeanne-Claude, such as the Pont-Neuf (1985) and the Reichstag (1995), and for environmental installations like The Floating Piers on Lake Iseo.
