Christo and Jeanne-Claude's Surrounded Islands celebrated at Art Basel Miami Beach 2018
Back in 1983, Christo and Jeanne-Claude made a splash in Miami by wrapping 11 islands in Biscayne Bay with over 600,000 square meters of pink polypropylene fabric for their piece called Surrounded Islands, which really put Miami on the art map. Now, thirty-five years later, Pace Gallery will showcase five related works on paper at Art Basel Miami Beach from December 6 to 9, 2018. This is a precursor to a major exhibition planned for Pace's New York location in 2020. Their booth will include preparatory collages and sketches from 1981 to 1983. Moreover, the Pérez Art Museum Miami will host a documentary exhibition about Surrounded Islands from October 4, 2018, to February 17, 2019.
