Christo and Jeanne-Claude's 'AIR' Exhibition Opens at Gagosian London

exhibition · 2026-05-03

Gagosian Grosvenor Hill in London is hosting 'CHRISTO: AIR', an exhibition that will be open from 21 May to 21 August. This showcase features the never-before-executed 'Air Package on a Ceiling', a concept first imagined in 1968 for the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia. The installation consists of a large illuminated structure measuring 16 meters in length and 10 meters in width, positioned just above head height. Additionally, the exhibition includes 'Wrapped Automobile – Volvo, Model PV-544' (1981), along with archival drawings, collages, and models. Concurrently, Gagosian's Burlington Arcade displays works on paper and publications that emphasize the infrastructural aspects of Christo and Jeanne-Claude's art. The show delves into material absence, spatial pressure, and perception, connecting Christo's influence to contemporary figures like Olafur Eliasson and Ann Hamilton, with accompanying text by Simon Cartwright.
