Christo and Jeanne-Claude: First Posthumous Exhibition in Italy at Castello di Miradolo

The first exhibition in Italy since Christo's death in 2020 opens at Castello di Miradolo near Pinerolo, Piedmont, running until April 16, 2023. Titled 'Christo e Jeanne-Claude. Projects,' the retrospective features around sixty works including mixed media and collages, alongside photographs and videos documenting iconic installations like Wrapped Reichstag (1995). The show is curated by Francesco Poli, Paolo Repetto, and Roberto Galimberti, with general coordination by Paola Eynard. A unique sound installation by Avant-dernière pensée pairs the art with music by Arvo Pärt, creating a quadraphonic diffusion system that echoes wind and movement. Lorenza Giovannelli of the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Foundation in New York, who joined Christo's team during The Floating Piers on Lake Iseo, now manages archives and curatorial projects. The exhibition also includes works by other artists from Land Art and Nouveau Réalisme. Christo preferred the term 'environmental art' over 'land art.' The Wrapped Reichstag project took over two decades to gain approval and remains one of the most impactful urban interventions.
