Christine Macel reassigned from Musée des Arts Décoratifs directorship after workplace investigation
Christine Macel has been reassigned from her position as director of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. She will now serve as a scientific and artistic advisor to the board's president until her contract concludes in October 2025, a newly created role. This change follows a workplace investigation triggered by an unprecedented wave of staff resignations, which uncovered social and psychological issues within the institution. Macel previously held the role of chief curator at the Centre Pompidou from 2000 to 2022 and curated the 2017 Venice Biennale. The Musée des Arts Décoratifs manages a public collection in a wing of the Louvre but operates without public funding for its budget. It also oversees the Musée Nissim de Camondo, which houses the Moïse de Camondo collection, along with a library and two schools. In a complex leadership setup, Macel worked alongside director-general Sylvie Corréard. Her predecessor, Olivier Gabet, served only a single term.
