institutional · 2026-04-20

Christine Macel is leaving her role as chief curator at the Centre Pompidou in Paris after more than twenty years to become the director of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs. This museum has been looking for new leadership since Olivier Gabet left earlier this year to head the art department at the Musée du Louvre. The Musée des Arts Décoratifs is home to an impressive collection of 357,100 items, ranging from furniture to jewellery, toys, and films. In her new role, Macel will also oversee the Musée Nissim-de-Camondo and École Camondo, a private design school. Notably, she has curated major exhibitions at Pompidou and was the artistic director for the Venice Biennale in 2017.
