Christie’s to Sell Dozens of George Condo Works from Anna Condo Collection
During Marquee Week in New York City, Christie’s will present a specially curated auction titled “Between Madness and Beauty,” featuring George Condo’s artworks from the Anna Condo Collection. This auction showcases pieces produced between 1996 and 2013, highlighting a variety of themes and techniques, including selections from his “Mental States” series, a bronze sculpture named Rodrigo and the Maid, and a nearly monochromatic work titled Untitled. Michael Baptist, who oversees the Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale at Christie’s, remarked on the contrast between intricate linear pieces and monochromatic studies. Approximately 66% of the artworks focus on the female figure. The collection will be exhibited at Christie’s Rockefeller Center from May 9–21. Recent Condo auctions at Christie’s fetched $6.85 million for Force Field (2020) and $5 million for Linnear Connection (2021), coinciding with NYC Design Week, Frieze New York, TEFAF, and ICFF.
