Christie's to launch first permanent Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong's Henderson tower in 2024

market-auction · 2026-04-20

Christie's will establish its inaugural year-round salesroom in Asia with a new Asia-Pacific headquarters opening in Hong Kong during 2024. The auction house has secured a decade-long lease for four floors within The Henderson, a commercial tower designed by Zaha Hadid Architects in Central district scheduled for completion next year. This 4,645 square-meter venue will enable continuous in-house auctions and private sales, expanding beyond the current biannual schedule at Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. Francis Belin, president of Christie's Asia-Pacific, emphasized this move creates opportunities for enhanced creativity and innovation while expressing confidence in Hong Kong's enduring role as Asia's premier art market hub. The decision follows record Asian spending reaching $1 billion in the first half of 2021, representing 39% of Christie's global sales. Despite political concerns regarding Beijing's influence and the National Security Law, Belin maintains Hong Kong's unique positioning remains intact. The Henderson development gains its first anchor tenant through this agreement.
