Christie's to Auction Alan Medaugh's Hiroshige Collection in September

Christie's Rockefeller Center will auction the Alan Medaugh Collection of Utagawa Hiroshige woodblock prints on 15 September 2026, with a public viewing from 11-14 September. The collection, assembled over fifty years by American businessman Alan Medaugh, comprises more than 600 sheets, many of exceptional rarity, quality, and preservation, focusing on earliest impressions with vibrant color. The sale, titled 'Hiroshige: Colors of the Four Seasons, the Alan Medaugh Collection,' is the first of a three-sale series. The inaugural auction will feature over 180 prints spanning Hiroshige's career, showcasing the breadth of his artistic achievement. Hiroshige (1797-1858) was celebrated in his lifetime as one of Japan's greatest printmakers and a master of Ukiyo-e.
