Christie's Paris to Auction Helga and Edzard Reuter Collection of European Avant-Garde

Christie's will auction 50 works from the Helga and Edzard Reuter collection in Paris on May 28, 2025, with a pre-sale estimate of €3-5 million. The single-owner sale features European avant-garde masterpieces by Yves Klein, Lucio Fontana, Enrico Castellani, and German ZERO group artists Günther Uecker, Otto Piene, and Heinz Mack. Highlights include Klein's Relief Planetaire Terre (Marseille Aix) (1961, est. €600,000-800,000), Fontana's Concetto spaziale (1956, est. €400,000-600,000), and Castellani's Superficie nera No. 3 (1964, est. €200,000-300,000). Proceeds benefit the Helga and Edzard Reuter Foundation, a non-profit founded in 1995 to promote intercultural dialogue and social integration. A second tranche of works will be auctioned by Christie's in autumn 2025. Edzard Reuter (1928-2024), former CEO of Daimler Benz AG (1987-1995), and his wife Helga built the collection from the 1960s, acquiring works directly from artists and top European galleries. The collection was displayed in their brutalist villa near Stuttgart, designed to honor Bauhaus aesthetics.
