Christie's New York held a record-breaking evening sale on May 2022, generating $843.7 million across three sessions, bringing the three-night total to $1.26 billion. The sale featured the Anne Bass collection, which alone fetched $363 million, including works by Degas, Rothko, Balthus, Monet, Hammershoi, and Morris Louis. A bronze sculpture by Degas set a new artist record at $41.6 million. The 20th Century sale saw multiple records: Howardena Pindell's 'Untitled #24' sold for $1.1 million, Picasso's 'Téte de femme (Fernande)' achieved $48.5 million, Ernie Barnes's 'The Sugar Shack' soared to $15.3 million against a $150,000-200,000 estimate, and Emanuel Leutze's 'Washington Crossing the Delaware' reached $45 million.
