Christie's 20th/21st Century: London Evening Sale on June 28, 2023, achieved £63,824,100 across 66 lots, following Sotheby's record sale of Klimt's 'Lady with a Fan' the previous day. Top lots included Paul Signac's 'Calanque des Canoubiers (Pointe de Bamer), Saint Tropez' at £8 million (including buyer's premium) and Jean-Michel Basquiat's 'Untitled (Pablo Picasso)' at £6.5 million. Victor Man's 'Weltinnenraum (World Within)' set a record, selling for £1,734,000—ten times its high estimate of £150,000. Other records: Diane Dal-Pra's 'It Belongs to You' at £113,400 (estimate £50,000), Ahmed Mater's 'Magnetism (Triptych)' at £189,000, and Chase Hall's 'Earl Hooker Blues in D Natural' at £75,000. Notable debuts: Sahara Longe's 'Self-Portrait' at £113,000 and Louis Fratino's 'Listening to a conch' at £201,000. Works by Edgar Degas, Pablo Picasso, and Lucian Freud were included to celebrate the reopening of London's National Portrait Gallery after three years of renovations. Unsold lots included works by Otto Müller, Gerhard Richter, Pierre Bonnard, Carl Andre, and Sam Gilliam.
