Christian Niccoli's 'Du bei mir' Trilogy Explores Spirituality and Belief

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Christian Niccoli's video trilogy 'Du bei mir' (2015-2021) examines humanity's relationship with spiritual and metaphysical entities. The project, part of the 'HUMANS. Video-ritratti della società contemporanea' series curated by Giovanni Viceconte, is presented under the keyword '[In]esistenza'. Each film uses a different cinematic language: Teil I (2016-17) focuses on spirituality through the body, Teil II (2019) on transcending life via a pole vaulter's leap, and Teil III (2020-21) on interpreting signs and forms. Niccoli, born in 1976 in Bolzano and based in Berlin, employed stop-motion and narrative short film techniques for the first time. The trilogy was supported by the Provincia Autonoma di Bolzano – Cultura Tedesca and other institutions. Niccoli's works have been exhibited internationally at venues including Kunsthaus Graz, Berlinische Galerie, and Museion Bolzano.
