Christian Greco and Paola Dubini's new book on museum management

Christian Greco, director of the Museo Egizio in Turin, and Professor Paola Dubini have co-authored a new book titled "La cultura è di tutti" (Culture is for Everyone), published in 2024. The book examines contemporary museum realities and their diverse publics, arguing that universal accessibility requires tailored strategies rather than standardized offerings. It was presented at BookCity Milano 2024, with contributions from Alessandra Quarto, director of Museo Poldi Pezzoli, and Marco Galli, director of Museo della Scienza e della Tecnologia Leonardo Da Vinci. The book highlights Italy's low cultural participation rate (under 50%) and low public spending on cultural services (0.3% of GDP, versus EU average of 0.5%). It advocates for diversification of museum offerings to serve first-time visitors and experts alike, using technology to enhance accessibility. Examples include the Poldi Pezzoli's new audioguides and podcasts, and the Museo Egizio's use of X-ray technology on mummies for research without damaging artifacts, while balancing spectacle with respect for human remains.
