Christian Fogarolli's Glass Delusion Exhibition at Alberta Pane Venice
Christian Fogarolli (born 1983, Trento) presents his first solo show at Galleria Alberta Pane in Venice, exploring the historical psychiatric condition known as glass delusion. This disorder, documented from the 15th to 19th centuries, caused sufferers to believe their bodies were made of glass and could shatter. Fogarolli's research-driven practice merges scientific history with contemporary art, questioning the fluid boundaries between normalcy and deviance. The exhibition features works such as 'Transparent Human 1 and 2' (2022), which combine black-and-white photographic portraits with glass sculptural elements to physically manifest psychic fragility. At the gallery's center, 'Evidence US7' (2022) is a detailed glass installation replicating the skeletal, muscular, and vascular systems of a reclining human body, evoking strong pathos. Through this study of a pathology, Fogarolli creates a powerful allegory for contemporary inner fragility. The show runs at Alberta Pane in Venice, curated by Carlo Sala (born 1984, Treviso), an art critic, curator, and lecturer at IUAV University of Venice's Master in Photography. Sala is also a curatorial committee member of Fondazione Francesco Fabbri Onlus, overseeing the Francesco Fabbri Prize.
