Chip Motors unveils $15K electric LUV with remote-driving service
Chip Motors has introduced Chip, a compact electric 'life utility vehicle' (LUV) designed for short trips around town. The four- or six-seat microcar reaches a top speed of 25 mph, keeping it off highways. Its optional Chip Go remote-driving service uses a trained human operator to move the vehicle when empty, via cameras and sensors. The LUV offers customizable colors, seats, and accessories, including a front compartment that can hold a TV and speakers. Range is over 100 miles per charge, with overnight charging via a standard 120V outlet or Level 2 via NACS. The washable interior and plastic composite panels are built for everyday use. Pricing starts at $15,000 for the four-seat version and $18,000 for six seats. Deliveries are expected in 2027; reservations require a $250 refundable deposit. Founders Jameson Detweiler and Ilan Penn lead the company.
