Chiostro del Bramante's Education Department Expands Access to Contemporary Art

The Chiostro del Bramante in Rome has developed a robust education department since its founding in 2019, under the direction of DART (Laura de Marco, Giulia de Marco, Natalia de Marco). Headed by Silvia Andreozzi, the department collaborates closely with curators to make exhibitions accessible to diverse audiences. For the current show "Crazy. La follia nell'arte contemporanea," curated by Danilo Eccher, the team created over ten educational pathways, including sensory and performative activities. Notable programs include "Zoom primo piano sui materiali," where students examine unusual materials like Hirshhorn's cardboard and aluminum foil or Janet Echelman's aerospace fibers, and "Dentro, fuori e attraverso le opere di Crazy," a performative experience that abandons traditional paper documentation. The department serves schools from kindergarten to university, offers LIS (Italian Sign Language) tours for deaf visitors, and will launch "Toccare è Crazy" in December for blind and visually impaired visitors. Artists such as Alfredo Pirri and the duo Fallen Fruit have participated in exclusive closed-door sessions. Methodologically, the department draws on Marco Dallari's phenomenological aesthetics, Cristina Francucci's art pedagogy, constructivist approaches from Anglo-Saxon museums, and embodied education.
