Chinese MLCC stocks surge on AI-driven demand for electronic 'rice'

economy-finance · 2026-06-20

Shares of Chinese multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) manufacturers have soared following explosive first-half earnings, driven by insatiable global demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure. Guangdong Fenghua Advanced Technology surged by the 10% daily limit on Wednesday, marking its second such gain this week, with a year-to-date rally of over 180%. Suzhou GYZ Electronic Technology jumped 20% on Shanghai's Star Market, while Chaozhou Three-Circle rose around 8% in Shenzhen and 5% in Hong Kong, achieving year-to-date gains above 130%. Upstream suppliers also benefited: Jiangsu Boqian New Materials gained nearly 6% and Shandong Sinocera Functional Materials rose almost 3.5%. MLCCs, essential for regulating electrical flow in devices from smartphones to AI servers, are often called the 'rice of the electronics industry' due to their tiny size and ubiquity. The rapid buildout of power-hungry AI data centers and computing clusters has driven high demand for high-capacitance MLCCs, creating supply constraints. Monthly shipments from the world's top three suppliers—Japan's Murata Manufacturing, South Korea's Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and Japan's Taiyo Yuden—hit a five-year high in June, according to TrendForce.
