Chinese EV Makers Court European Buyers at Beijing Auto Show
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers BYD, Geely, and Xpeng showcased new models at the Beijing auto show, aiming to expand in Europe. German automotive consultant Erik Böhme, among 250 foreign guests invited by Geely, noted growing European interest. Geely flew in about 50 Europeans; Xpeng and Chery also hosted hundreds of overseas visitors. The push follows a domestic price war and targets higher margins abroad. AlixPartners' Dan Hearsch said Europe is more open to Chinese EVs than the US, which has higher trade barriers.
