Chinese Architect Liu Jiakun Awarded 2025 Pritzker Prize
The 2025 Pritzker Architecture Prize has been conferred upon Liu Jiakun, a renowned architect from China. The jury, led by Alejandro Aravena, who won the award in 2016, commended Liu for addressing social and environmental issues while honoring daily life and community identities. Born in Chengdu in 1956, Liu established Jiakun Architects in 1999 after working with the Chengdu Architectural Design and Research Institute and spending time in Tibet. Over his 40-year career, he has completed more than thirty projects throughout China, including educational and cultural buildings, civic spaces, and urban planning. Liu will receive the $100,000 prize and bronze medallion at a ceremony in the Louvre Abu Dhabi this spring, with a follow-up virtual event in the fall.
