ChimPom Wins Overall Prize at 2015 Prudential Eye Awards for Asian Contemporary Art
At The Prudential Eye Awards: Contemporary Asian Art 2015, the Japanese art group ChimPom was awarded the top honor, recognizing emerging artists from Asia. Chosen from a pool of 500 nominees, ChimPom also triumphed in the digital/video category. Other notable winners included Christine Ay Tjoe (painting), Mithu Sen (drawing), Meekyoung Shin (sculpture), Donna Ong (installation), and Sherman Ong (photography), each receiving $20,000. In addition, ChimPom will be granted $30,000 and a solo exhibition at The Saatchi Gallery in London. The awards ceremony took place on 20 January at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, coinciding with Art Stage Singapore. The exhibition began on 17 January at the ArtScience Museum and will continue until 31 March. This initiative is a collaboration between Parallel Contemporary Art, Saatchi Gallery, and Prudential.
