Chile and Peru National Pavilions at the 58th Venice Biennale

exhibition · 2026-04-24

The 58th Venice Biennale, curated by Ralf Rugoff, features 79 artists in the international exhibition and 89 national pavilions. At the Arsenale, the Peruvian pavilion presents Christian Bendayan's solo show "Trans Tropicalia (Fragments)," using paintings, installations, collages, and archival pieces to explore discrimination against trans and indigenous people in Peru. The Chilean pavilion, curated by Augustín Pérez Rubio, features Voluspa Jarpa's "Altered Views (Visões alteradas)," a fictional museum that challenges European narratives through three sections: The Hegemony Museum, the Subaltern Portrait Gallery, and the Emancipation Opera, addressing racism, patriarchy, heteronormativity, and the link between economy and colonialism. Both pavilions run until November 24, 2019.
