Chiharu Shiota's largest French exhibition opens at renovated Grand Palais
Chiharu Shiota's 'The Soul Trembles,' her largest exhibition in France, opened December 11, 2024 at the newly renovated Grand Palais in Paris, running until March 19, 2025. Curated by Mami Kataoka, director of the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, the show spans 1,200 square meters and features seven monumental installations alongside sculptures, photographs, drawings, video performances, and archival documents from over twenty years of the artist's career. Shiota, born in Osaka in 1972 and based in Berlin, is renowned for her wool-thread works that engage viewers physically and emotionally, exploring dreamlike and temporal elements, personal and collective memories. The Grand Palais, after a four-year restoration, reopened for the 2024 Olympics and hosted FAB Paris before this exhibition. Additionally, a 3,000-square-meter ice skating rink opened December 14, with DJ sets and light projections.
