Chiasso Perduto: experimental art space in Florence's Palazzo Machiavelli

Founded in 2019 by Francesca Morozzi and Sandra Miranda Pattin, Chiasso Perduto is an experimental space for artist residencies and exhibitions inside Palazzo Machiavelli in central Florence. The space's curved, asymmetrical architecture with niches and no Wi-Fi challenges artists to deconstruct their practice and create site-specific works. Morozzi, from Bologna, focuses on painting and installation; Pattin, from Bogotá, handles performance, installation, residencies, and curatorial projects. The residency pushes artists to abandon pre-made works and engage with the city beyond tourist routes. The space hosts the Oltrarno Art Crawl with Miriam Hurley's Speakeasy Firenze, inviting other galleries and studios. Sales are not a priority; ephemeral projects are common, and collaborations with galleries handle sales when possible. Future plans include expanding the experimental experience to Colombia, inviting creatives to use local resources for exploratory artistic actions without necessarily completing a project. Chiasso Perduto aims to offer an artistic experience that activates all perceptual senses while respecting the artist's identity.
