Chiara Valdambrini appointed director of Santa Maria della Scala in Siena

Chiara Valdambrini, who was born in Arezzo in 1978, has been named the new director of the Fondazione Antico Ospedale Santa Maria della Scala in Siena, a role that has remained unfilled since 2019. An open call in early 2023 drew more than sixty applicants, and Valdambrini was chosen by a selection committee that included Cristiana Collu and Paola Dubini. She earned her Archaeology degree from the University of Siena and has been leading the Museo d'Archeologia e dell'Arte della Maremma since late 2019. Her official appointment will take place on April 21, with her three-year term commencing in September 2023. Valdambrini plans to strengthen the museum's ties with local entities and initiate long-term projects focused on community involvement and the fusion of archaeology with modern art.
